EMI Contest
Posted by Emma @ 22:08 BST ( Comments 0 )
A recent LEC newsletter has mentioned that there will be an upcoming EMI contest. The newsletter reads the following...

"Hey dude...umm...I mean Ahoy mateys! Prepare for a Monkey Island contest that requires more skill than mere wit. If this sounds creative, you're on the right track!"
So keep your eyes peeled for future news! Please note that this will be a members only contest.

The Phantom LucasArts
Posted by Huz @ 16:11 BST ( Comments 0 )
(Excuse me if you're not impressed by the sheer wit of these news headings.)

Voodoo Extreme have apparently discovered that LucasArts will not be attending ECTS this year. This is the European equivilent of the E3 expo, where gaming companies get to show off their latest products to the computing press.

In case you're still working it out, this means that European types attending the expo next month won't be getting a look at EMI's progress. Alas.

The Screenshots Strike Back
Posted by Huz @ 16:00 BST ( Comments 0 )
The wonderful Gamespot have posted a gallery of EMI screenshots. Some are new, some are old (mainly having been seen in magazines and in the preview movies before), but they're all looking very nice. Check them out here.

Return of the LucasArts Update
Posted by Huz @ 20:23 BST ( Comments 0 )
Alas. Or hooray, depending on how you view all this EMI information we've been getting.

LucasArts have performed their weekly site update, but there's no new MI4 news. The site's front page carries a poll that asks you about your favourite game genre. The MI4 Spotlight poll asks: "Guybrush is considering running for President. What do you think?"

There's also some new information on the forthcoming Star Wars games. Which is nice, if you like Star Wars games. Visit LucasArts here.

Monkey Island fan sites spring up, disappear and are subsequently reborn all the time. Here's just a small selection worthy of mention in this roundup.

  • SCUMM, one of the best LucasArts-related fan sites out there in times past, has been reborn at a new address with an excellent new look. Check it out!

  • mixnmojo.com celebrated its third birthday this week in style, allowing two new Monkey Island sites to join its community (of which this site is a part). The first is the Legend of Monkey Island site and the second will be The Definitive Monkey Island Website, currently hosted by evil empire GeoCities.

  • No milestones reached here, but adventuregamer.com has two new LucasArts-related articles worth reading: the first is a comprehensive walkthrough for Maniac Mansion, and the second "explains why [Full Throttle] would have made a better movie than The Dig".

Screenshots Ahoy!
Posted by Huz @ 18:52 BST ( Comments 1 )
Here's a treat for all those hungry for all the glimpses possible of EMI. mixnmojo.com claim to have a complete archive of all available EMI screenshots to date (apart from screenshots which were simply captured from EMI movies). Take a look. Thanks go to mixnmojo.com for these, and special thanks go to CROC for collecting the screenshots for them!

'Copyright vs Fandom' Article
Posted by Huz @ 18:35 BST ( Comments 2 )
Adventure Gamer have posted an article discussing the recent closures of two Monkey Island fan games by LucasArts' legal and business affairs department. Here's a small extract:

While I strongly believe that LucasArts has every right to protect their intellectual property, they are certainly not making themselves popular.

Spanish MI wavs
Posted by FortKeeper @ 13:56 BST ( Comments 0 )
It's well-known that many games get released in different languages, and this counts for CMI too. Just listen to these wavs from the Spanish version.
The first is Guybrush saying "I'm selling these fine leather jackets", the second is the voodoo lady, and the third is Murray saying "Damnit".

Thanks to Sopabuena for the files.

That box art again!
Posted by Skyfox @ 14:55 BST ( Comments 3 )
Something I'm sure a lot will be interested in, as this seems to have been one of the big topics of discussion recently. But you can all now be assured that the box art on Amazon.com was just a temp picture used at E3. You can all breathe again now! That includes YOU.. Mr. Guybrush!

What a lovely model...
Posted by Skyfox @ 12:52 BST ( Comments 1 )
CGO has posted an article with 3D models from EMI... it also has a decription of some of the characters in the game, including Jojo Junior. Maybe I should change my name to Ignatius Cheese... oh and thanks to http://www.adventuregamer.com for the news.

Alas poor Jojo...
Posted by Skyfox @ 12:34 BST ( Comments 0 )
In a update yesterday... I wondered what had happened to Jojo the Monkey. Ian C emailed me with the answer... in a EMI screenshot we can clearly see a grave stone labeled Jojo Senior next to the giant monkey head. You can view the screenshot here... a moment of silence if you please.

Have you Hypnotized a Monkey Today?
Posted by Skyfox @ 8:56 BST ( Comments 0 )
LucasArts have a new question up in the Ask the Team section. This one is to the EMI team.

Q: In terms of game play, will Monkey 4 provide the same difficulty level established in the previous games?

A: We're right in there. Not the easiest, but probably not quite the hardest. Every time we think of hypnotizing the monkey in Monkey 2, we stop thinking of this game as hard!

I wonder whatever happened to poor Jojo. Thanks to Swordmaster for the news.

My Resignation From Mixnmojo & The Community
Posted by Narrative @ 20:34 BST ( Comments 2 )
Because of some recent events in my life (online and also offline) I have decided it'd be best for me to tender my resignation with my position in Mixnmojo (and the community affiliated with it like The Scumm Bar) for an un-known period of time.
I have decided that it'd be for the best.
I have also decided it'd be best to have a break from the LucasArts community, and so I will have a leave of absence from input into the community as a whole.
What this will mean is I will, infrequently, be working on future features, posting news article, discussing on the message boards, participating in IRC DalNet or any other participation with the community. This includes Scumm Bar along with Mixnmojo.
As for the length of this time of my resignation, I am not sure to be honest. Until I feel that I could contribute to the community in a proper and appropriate fashion and that the time is right, I may return.
This doesn't mean I'm going into a cave, becoming a hermit or joining a Big Brother house for a year! I will still be following the news, keeping an eye on everyone and replying to my mail, but I shall not be inputting into the community like I have been.
I shall be online IRC in #monkey-island (DalNet) for most of tomorrow night (Sunday), so if you have anything to say to me, then I shall be online.
I'm sorry for any problems this causes towards the community (Mixnmojo & ScummBar).
I'll be back :-)

Thanks for any support,
Fair well...

New LEC Stuff
Posted by Narrative @ 21:31 BST ( Comments 0 )
LucasArts have updated their web-page with some cool EMI stuff!
As well as the poll mentioned by Emma, there is also a new featured screenshot of Escape from Monkey Island and it's of "The Tumbling Termites", which incidentally contains the clippet from last week's main poll.

New MI poll at LEC
Posted by Emma @ 21:04 BST ( Comments 0 )
LEC has yet another poll associated with EMI. This time it asks, "If you could hold your breath for 10 minutes like Guybrush (Monkey 4), how would you use this rare talent? " So get along to the LucasArts website and vote!

THE EMI COVER IS OFFICIAL!!!!!
Posted by Pedgey @ 18:53 BST ( Comments 5 )
This is the response I recieved from amazon.com about the EMI boxart that is currently on display on their page:

Thanks for a great question. While we don't have any information about the actual artist who rendered the "Escape from Monkey Island" cover, you can rest assured that the cover art was sent to us by the manufacturer.

On those occasions where we haven't been given an image of a product,
we simply supply all the information we can, without a picture.

So... there you have it... the cover WAS supplied by LEC.

Monkey Impossible 2

Confusion Over Cover Art
Posted by Narrative @ 7:58 BST ( Comments 1 )
There has been some confusion over the Escape from Monkey Island cover art, as posted below.
By the look of it, it does look amateur produced compared to the normal standard of box-art. This has mainly been because of several flaws or features, like the way the art is made of the in-game low polygon models and that things like the TM & Copyright marks are missing. Also, the slogan is the same as CMI, among with many other irregular parts.
Some people have said it's the final box-art, some have said its a fan-work, and others have suggested it's something else.
Looking at it, chances are it's a very early draft of the final box-art from LucasArts that was given to Amazon just so customers can pre-order the game and see what the cover looks like.
So don't fret, chances are the final version will look different and a lot better!

EMI Box Art
Posted by Skyfox @ 17:26 BST ( Comments 4 )
Amazon.com appears to have a picture of the EMI box art! Nice eh? It also says that it will be released on the 15th November 2000... but I would not take this date as 100% certain at this time. Thanks goto Remi Olsen for the news!

Remember this?
Posted by Skyfox @ 9:27 BST ( Comments 0 )
Tell you what... I'll just let type what The World of Monkey Island had to say about this one.

You might remember that back in 1998 Iris Dragt started to create a comic based on The Secret of Monkey Island and I was lucky enough to be able to host the comic exclusively at The World of Monkey Island. The comic was extremely popular and she made 13 pages before deciding to concentrate her work on another comic and the upcoming adventure game, The Masters. (http://masters.adventuregamer.com/)

Therefore, I am happy to report that Iris Dragt has decided to continue her work on the Monkey Island comic. However, since her drawings has improved much over the years, she has decided to start over from scratch and it is with great joy that I present page one of the new Monkey Island comic!

The drawings are truly superb and she puts a lot of work in creating them.
I hope you will check out the new comic and see what a great artist she is.

I'm really looking forward to this one.

LOL Project Terminated
Posted by Narrative @ 12:55 BST ( Comments 5 )
The fangame project Legends of LeChuck, which incidentally was started by me, has been suspended indefinitely due to a legal notice from LucasArts themselves.
This is a grim day for the LucasArts fangame community for which this spells certain doom, especially projects like FOMI2 which is close to completion of Chapter 3 and the Indy fangame project FOA2 which shows immense potential.
For a full explanation of what LucasArts summoned ShawArts (my organisation setup to create fangames) to do, visit the official site at Http://www.shawarts.co.uk.

MI 2 Selected into Hall of Fame!
Posted by Dingy @ 21:17 BST ( Comments 0 )
The highly appreciated sequal to SOMI has been elected into the Gamespy Hall of Fame. Here's a little of what the site says about the game: "What was so innovative in Monkey Island 2 is that, for the first time, puzzles were 'layered', far more so than anything up to that date. For example, you'd find you needed to get to place B, but to do so you needed first to open door A, and that required both key C and grease glob D, both of which were attained through entirely different puzzles."
